Drivers and residents may have noticed quite a bit of movement near the hospital lately.
A house purchased by Franciscan Healthcare in 2015 has been moved a mile and a half north of West Point. Originally used as housing for nuns who served West Point and the hospital, the house now belongs to Noah Kreikemeier.
The Sisters have a new residence on Neligh Street which allows the property to be repurposed for hospital needs. Franciscan plans to use the area to create additional parking to support the hospital, clinic and rehabilitation services. The move also allows the hospital to preserve flexibility for potential future growth.
The Cuming County Public Power District helped with the moving process October 20. Communications Manager Nicki White said the Operations Department talked to the movers well in advance to figure the best route so the least amount of customers would lose power. The linemen had to disconnect and drop power lines that were too low to let the house through.
“Sometimes they can push the lines up enough to have the house go under,” she said. “It can take most of the day to get the house to its destination. Then the linemen have to make sure all of the power lines are put back into place and all customers’ power is restored.”
Kreikemeier said he plans to move in around the new year. The acreage the house is now on originally had a residence, but he decided to tear it down rather than renovate it. Once plumbing is installed and their garage and driveway are poured, the new house will be ready for the Kreikemeiers.
