Knowing they had their work cut out for them, West Point-Beemer’s focus heading into the Class C2 State Football Playoffs versus #2 Bergan Catholic was to limit big plays and play a clean football game.

“Although we limited their big plays, we lost the turnover battle and did not execute at a high enough level,” Cadet head coach Dalton Tremayne said.

As a result, Bergan Catholic captured a 56-21 win over West Point-Beemer in the opening round of the State Playoffs on October 30 at Fremont.

The Cadets played without starting quarterback Mason Toelle. Filling in was freshman Dawson Mackling.

Junior Josh Snodgrass was Mackling’s top target in the game as he hauled in four catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

The other Cadet score came with Hunter Doggett’s 75-yard interception return.

“I’m proud of our group and the steps they took as a program. Back-to-back playoff appearance is something that Cadet Football hasn’t done since 2018. We competed against some tough opponents, but I saw a group that stayed composed and fought until the end,” Tremayne said.

“Many times, I had officiating crews tell me that we had the best group of kids they have seen in a long time. Our players’ efforts on the field, sideline, and community have not gone unnoticed by myself, our coaches and others. This team has given us something to continue to build off of and a standard to raise for the future.”

This marked the final game for 10 Cadet seniors: Gerardo Flores, Colby Anderson, Emmanuel Figueroa, David Barrios, Bryce Popken, Chase Brester, Hunter Doggett, Elijah Harrington, Samuel Teutsch and Rogelio Osorio.

West Point-Beemer ends their season with a 5-5 record.
