Four mayoral candidates file in Cuming County

For the 2026 midterms, two candidates have filed for the mayoral race in Wisner and two have filed as write-ins in West Point.
Jay Meyer and incumbent Terry Soden filed for the race earlier this year.
Meyer’s focus would be to keep spending on utilities down for locals. Having been on the city council in the past, he feels his experience serving the city will help him manage issues.
“I saw a lot when I was on the council,” he said. “It’s strange how the money gets spent sometimes.”
As the incumbent, Soden believes the mayor should be available to the people any day of the week to hear concerns. Through supporting first responders and creating a working relationship with city employees, his life-long residency in Wisner has led him to feel proud of his community.
Soden served as a police officer and Chief of Police for over 46 years, and he served on the city council for four years.
Alex Norton and Keith Hugo are both write-ins for West Point’s mayoral race. Norton ran eight years ago and decided recently to run again.
“That exact same passion and desire to serve our city are still right here, and I am so excited for the chance to earn your vote,” he said. “I really just couldn’t deny my urge to serve West Point in this capacity anymore. It has been a dream and vision for quite some time, and with the support I’ve received before and now after announcing, I feel like it was the right decision to file.”
Hugo, who was stationed in Mississippi during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, feels his experience in leadership and management of complicated operations will allow him to utilize resources to accomplish goals in a fiscally responsible way.
“The infrastructure in town, including water and distribution, is aging and needs to be replaced,” he said. “I want to deal with our water problem because we need to continue to address it. I’d look for outside sources like grants so it’s not all falling onto water customers to foot the bill. I’m dedicated to making sure West Point has adequate housing and making it an attractive place to start businesses.”
Write-in candidates’ names won’t officially be printed on the ballot, so voters must fill in their chosen candidate as a write-in when casting their vote and fill in the bubble next to their write-in option.
District 3 has new candidate
There will be a new challenger for the Cuming County Board of Supervisors race in District #3.
Loren Siebrandt filed as a write-in candidate (Nonpartisan) on October 20. He will challenge incumbent Judy Mutzenberger.
Other candidates include: Tracy Kaup for District #1 (incumbent Steven Meister); incumbent Glen Wiechman for District #5; and Bradley Boyum for District #7 (incumbent Norbert Holtz).
