As four new staff members get settled in at St. Paul’s, the school is looking forward to starting a new but familiar chapter.

Since 1883, St. Paul’s has been a part of West Point’s history. With new teachers, staff and learning programs added this year, Principal Paula Peatrowsky is excited to begin a new chapter about building on history, not replacing it.

“Among the new staff members are teachers serving in the elementary grades, as well as new administrative support,” she said. “Together, they bring a variety of educational backgrounds and gifts to St. Paul School.”

The new staff includes three teachers. Tiffanny Heese joined St. Paul’s as the Kindergarten/First Grade teacher bringing multiple years of experience teaching in both private and public schools. She earned her master’s degree from Wayne State University.

Peatrowsky said one of Heese’s greatest strengths is her ability to foster meaningful relationships with her students.

“She is a faith-filled educator who models humility and grace and is deeply dedicated to her vocation,” she added. “Her desire to nurture and encourage young students is a blessing to the school.”

Another new teacher is Jillian Heard, the new Second/Third Grade teacher. Heard earned her bachelor’s degree from Midland University, with degrees in Elementary Education K- 8 and High Ability Education K- 12. In addition to teaching elementary students, Mrs. Heard has a gift for music and is serving as St. Paul’s music teacher. She has been working with students in grades four through six, teaching them how to play the guitar.

Missy Johnson, the new Fourth – Sixth Grade teacher earned her bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and brings two years of previous teaching experience to her new position. In her classroom, Johnson utilizes Acellus for core academic subjects, while afternoons are devoted to project-based learning. This gives students opportunities to take what they have learned and apply it through hands-on projects, activities and field trips.

In addition to the new teaching staff, Jenn Batenhorst has joined the school as office manager. Batenhorst always has a smile on her face and is willing to help in any capacity.

“The addition of these new staff members brings excitement, joy and new opportunities to St. Paul School,” Peatrowsky said. “Each educator brings a unique set of experiences and talents, but all share a common desire to serve students and positively contribute to the mission of the school.”
